BED BUG REMEDIATION

PEST CONTROL

Effective, Efficient & Safe Best Practices

  • We follow the principles of Integrated Pest Management or IPM. It is recognized in Ontario as the best practice in structural pest control. We back it up with our decades of construction experience and hands on knowledge of the Peterborough building environment. We know our neighbourhoods, local pest concerns, and how this city is built.

  • Commercial food establishments can ask for our Bar and Restaurant exterminator.

  • With our multifaceted expertise, we can identify suspected animal and insect entrances, leaks in plumbing, drainage issues or rodent damaged wires if discovered on our thorough initial inspection.

Integrated Pest Management is our guiding focus as a pest control company. IPM is principally based on knowing and observing the signs of pest activity, their habits, harbourages, and food or water sources for each pest. This IPM framework also includes an understanding of how to apply the right Canadian approved chemicals in the right places and at the right strength to be both safe and effective.

We show our clients what they can do to be proactive and preventative with unwanted critters. We offer you comprehensive instructions, will do our best to answer your questions and provide you with an information sheet (mainly for bed bug and cockroach preparation) for you to review before treatment occurs.

We support local not-for-profit organizations with special pricing, our respectful appreciation of Peterborough’s diverse and rich communities and through our hours of volunteering in basic food security action.

Specific pests and best methods of prevention and elimination after confirmation identification, inspection of the premises, and appropriate treatment that includes non-chemical methods and careful use of pesticides only when necessary. IPM also includes appropriate follow-up as a quality assurance element.

We always advise our clients of the best approaches and also explain what you can do to help yourself, and to enable the best job and prevention of recurrence. We guarantee our work in writing, and clearly explain what is needed from you to validate our excellent guarantee.

This is our Integrated Pest Management Plan we offer to eliminate bed bugs.

The Initial Intensive Treatment Includes the following:

  1. Vacuum all signs of bed bugs from the infested area. This will remove live bed bugs, and their debris including cast skins, feces, and many eggs. Our vacuums have HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filters that filter the exhaust air to an efficiency of more than 99% of particles.

  2. High Heat Steam treatment of the seams, creases, tufts, and folds of the mattress and box spring, headboard, foot-board, bed rails and all furniture within close proximity to bed. We use professional machines that produce a superheated steam.

  3. Encase mattress and box spring that will both protect your valuable bedding and keep any newly hatched bed bugs that might be missed from steam-vacuum locked inside where they will die. Box spring encasement is included with our service.

  4. Apply diatomaceous dust application to cracks and crevices in the baseboards throughout your home.

  5. Pull carpeting from tack strip in area behind bed and treat if any signs of bed bug activity is found there. We will treat this area with steam and dust as necessary.

  6. Remove outlet covers around bed area and treat inside with dust.

  7. Treat with pesticide headboard, foot-board and bed rails, and all furniture within close proximity to bed.

  8. Install Interceptor Bed Bug Trap/Monitor devices under bed legs. These devices act as early detection monitors but also prevent bed bugs from getting on the bed.

  9. Perimeter pesticide treatment of all rooms in your home.

  10. Follow-up pesticide treatment within 10 to 14 days after initial treatment.

  11. Follow-up treatment if needed two weeks after 2nd visit.

Do Not

  1. Don't Panic! Bed bugs are difficult pests to get rid of, but with the right experienced Pest Management Professional you can get total elimination within a short period of time.

  2. Do not use over the counter sprays, they are not recommended for a bed bug infestation. Aerosol cans can actually make the infestation worse by spreading them away from their typical harborage areas.

  3. Do not throw out your mattress and box spring unless you were planning on replacing them. If you do throw them out, precautions need to be taken to not spread the bed bugs throughout the building.

  4. Do not throw out furniture. Almost everything can be treated and saved.

  5. Do not start sleeping in a different room.  The bed bugs will eventually find you and all you will have done is spread the infestation.

  6. Do not move during a bed bug infestation unless you absolutely have to. You are likely to bring them with you.

  7. Do not take things out of an infested room and move them to another room. Moving items from one room to another will spread the bed bugs.

Do

  1. Do try to save any bed bug you find to show your pest control operator. You can use clear masking tape to trap one and stick it onto a white piece of paper.

  2. Do reduce the amount of clutter as much as possible. Clutter provides bed bugs a safe place to hide and makes it hard for a Pest Management Professional to inspect and to treat.
